ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) has emerged as a new corporate management model not only in Korea but also all across the world, as the social responsibility of companies and investors have expanded over the years to make sustainable growth and development possible.

In response to these changes, Barun Law LLC has created the ESG Response Team to provide legal assistance to companies as they prepare to implement the ESG management paradigm to their everyday corporate affairs.

Barun Law has continued to provide comprehensive services on corporate governance, including conducting internal audit of one of the largest companies in Korea, on behalf of the company’s audit committee, based on the know-how accumulated over many years as Barun represented clients and provided legal advice on matters concerning internal audit, management right disputes and compliance. Through organic cooperation with other specialized agencies, we are planning to provide solutions to our clients in all practice areas. As part of this effort, we have partnered with Korea Compliance Academy, an agency that provides compliance education, to provide consulting on Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) certification, as well as with Bureau van Dijk, a subsidiary of Moody’s, a renowned credit rating agency, to prepare in advance for any ESG-related disputes, including those concerning Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) by utilizing compliance data integrated with extensive company information, such as information on companies subject to sanctions, watch lists and adverse media, and ESG-related data on private businesses across the world that Moody’s retains.
